Earthenware, c.AD 1650 -1800, United Kingdom (although found globally). Initially produced in Staffordshire, but also produced in Bristol and at Donyatt in Somerset. Usually in a cream cam clay, although Burchill (2006: 38) reports a possibly earlier example from Bristol in a reddish firing. Many of the Staffordshire-type slipwares have a complete coating of slip in one colour, with a trailed slip pattern in another (Draper 1984: 18), such as the marbled pattern shown above.
