Field, J, 1989 (reprint of 1972 edition), English Field Names: A Dictionary, Stroud: Alan Sutton, 125, 256 and 177 respectively. Post-medieval activity sites are as susceptible to identification from field names as are those from much earlier periods. They have, for example, been used in an attempt to locate 17th-century bell-founding pits in Herefordshire; see Eisel, John C, 1996, "The Relevance of Field-Names to Bell Archaeology", Transactions of the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club, 48:3, 437-41.
